Tom Holland, the face of the MCU’s Spider-Man, has given fans an exciting update on the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4. In a recent appearance on The Rich Roll Podcast, the actor shared that he and his girlfriend, co-star Zendaya, have already read a draft of the script. Both actors are set to reprise their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ, respectively, continuing their beloved on-screen chemistry from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home (2021).
Reading the Script Together
The British star revealed that he and Zendaya sat down together to go through the draft, and the experience was nothing short of thrilling. “We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent,” Holland shared. While he admitted that the script still needs some fine-tuning, he expressed great confidence in the writers working on the project. “I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” he said enthusiastically.
In a particularly heartfelt moment, Holland shared how he and Zendaya couldn't contain their excitement while reading the script, describing their reactions: “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect."
The Complexities of the MCU
Holland also touched upon the intricate nature of making films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As Spider-Man continues to be an integral part of the larger Marvel storyline, he acknowledged the challenges of aligning the solo film within the MCU’s carefully crafted timeline. “One of the things to bear in mind with Marvel is that your film is a small cog in a large machine,” he explained. “And that machine has got to keep running. And you need to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture.”
He emphasized that although the task of fitting the film into the larger MCU schedule is demanding, he has full faith in the talented team working behind the scenes. “The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the fantastic people we have working on it now.”
New Director in Talks
Rumors have also surfaced that the fourth Spider-Man installment may see a change in the director's chair. According to reports from last month, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to take over from Jon Watts, who directed the first three movies. Fans are eager to see how a fresh directorial perspective could bring new elements to the franchise, especially following the massive success of No Way Home.
With excitement brewing for Spider-Man 4 and Holland’s and Zendaya’s clear enthusiasm, fans can be sure that the next chapter of Spider-Man’s journey will be another thrilling adventure.
