Jr NTR Breaks Silence on Devara Movie Reviews: We as an Audience Have Become Very Negative These Days

The highly anticipated Jr NTR-starrer Devara was released in theaters on September 27, initially drawing audiences in with a stellar opening. However, despite its promising start, the film experienced a significant drop in box office numbers shortly after its debut. In light of the mixed reviews, Jr NTR has broken his silence, expressing concern over the audience's evolving perception of cinema.

A Shift in Audience Mindset

In a recent interview reported by India Today, Jr NTR articulated his thoughts on the critical reception of Devara. He noted a disturbing trend in the audience's approach to film viewing, stating, “We as an audience have become very negative these days. We are not able to enjoy a film in an innocent manner anymore.” Reflecting on his sons, he emphasized their ability to watch movies without the burden of analysis, saying, “They don’t care about what actor or what movie they are watching; they just enjoy movies. I wonder why we are not able to be that innocent anymore?”

The actor believes that the constant scrutiny of films has overshadowed the joy of simply enjoying them. “Every film today, we are watching it to analyze. We are all constantly judging, analyzing, and overthinking about films. Maybe our exposure to cinema has made us like this,” he added. Jr NTR speculated that this shift may be part of a broader cycle in cinema culture, suggesting that the pendulum could swing back to a more carefree appreciation of films.

About Devara

Devara: Part 1, directed by Koratala Siva, features Jr NTR in a dual role alongside an impressive cast that includes Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Srikanth Meka, Tom Shine Chacko, and Narain. Saif plays Bhaira, a kushti (wrestling) master whose seemingly invincible world is challenged by Jr NTR's character. Despite its mixed reviews, the film had an explosive opening day, earning ₹172 crore.

Critics have pointed out that the film's predictable plot detracted from its overall impact. An excerpt from Hindustan Times noted, “If you’ve paid close attention to the trailers of Devara: Part 1, this is a story you can predict from a mile away. The film's first half takes its time to set up the legend of the titular character and how he came to be the protector of the seas.”

As Devara continues its run in theaters, Jr NTR’s reflections raise important questions about the evolving relationship between audiences and cinema. While critical analysis can enhance the viewing experience, the actor's sentiments remind us of the joy that can be found in simply enjoying a film for what it is. Perhaps, as the industry navigates these changes, a balance can be struck between thoughtful critique and the pure enjoyment of storytelling.
